The world is in mourning the loss of actor Chadwick Boseman, who died at age 43 after a private four-year battle with colon cancer. Jesse Holland, the author of a book on Boseman’s iconic “Black Panther” character, joined CBSN to discuss Boseman’s legacy, how he embodied legendary Black characters, and what he meant for a younger generation.

  1. 8.28.20 I had my colonoscopy. 3 years prior, I had polyps, but I still seriously considered postponing the procedure, due to COVID-19, and taking care of my Mom, who has Alzheimer’s. After hearing the Devastating news about Chadwick..I’m so glad I did it! Chadwick was 39 YEARS OLD WITH STAGE 3-COLON CANCER..Please everyone get yourselves checked. Whether it’s a colonoscopy, mammogram, prostate exam, endoscopy, etc. These procedures aren’t the most pleasant, but Early Detection is the Best Protection. I’m Still in Shock! Overcome with Sadness! Chadwick, is truly one of GOD’s SOLDIERS!! Take Care, Everyone. &GOD BLESS!!!

  2. I am not a Black person. When certain Blacks died in 2020, I was outraged. When John Lewis died, I was sad. When Chadwick Boseman died, I cried because I was reminded that this was a man who helped make movies about noble examples of all that is great about Black people. He was 42, three months shy of his 43rd birthday. Remember the significance of 42! It is the number of Jackie Robinson. It is the day the MLB celebrated the number 42.

  3. When I was in nursing school, about 100 years ago, I learned that colon cancer was more prevalent in black men and Mexican men, often due to diet and genetically. I also learned that my job was to teach others about their health. Because this young man has lost his life, I’d want more than anything is to use his story to remind folks to get checked when you are in high risk groups. I believe these statistics could be turned around!
When we know better, we do better.
God bless this young man’s family, I pray for them to be comforted.💝🙏

  4. Feels like I lost a family member. We love you man. I know you are still with your loved ones. RIP. Thanks a great role model.
