The Beirut blast has driven fresh calls for a large ammonium nitrate stockpile in Newcastle in New South Wales to be moved away from residents.
The stockpile at Orica’s Kooragang Island plant in the Port of Newcastle is four times larger than the amount reportedly stored in Beirut.
Keith craig, a chemical engineer and community campaigner has been calling for the plant to be moved for years.
