The White House Coronavirus Task Force briefed reporters Thursday for the first time in months, as cases and deaths continue to climb in the U.S. The country just passed the grim milestone of 250,000 deaths from COVID-19.

The task force met on Tuesday and warned of dire consequences if more mitigation measures aren’t taken, saying the country could reach up to 2,000 deaths a day by Christmas. It recommended closing indoor dining and restaurants and suggested that Vice President Mike Pence or President Trump urge Americans publicly to take more precautions.
